Since Strasbourg is a university town (about 45,000 students, thus the largest university in France), there are always lots of cultural activities and events catered towards a younger, intellectual crowd. Strasbourg is home to TNS (Théâtre National de Strasbourg) which is in a big beautiful building not far from my apartment, and has a wide variety of professional plays each season. I had the opportunity to see Don Juam, which was very well done, and intriguing, yet very hard for me to understand.
Recently, I had the opportunity to see a performance of “The Laramie Project” put on by a student organization of the university. “The Laramie Project” is an American play by Moises Kauffman that tells the story of the murder of Matthew Shephard, a gay student at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. I know the story well, since I had seen it performed twice in English. I think that helped a lot.
So much culture in France! I love it.
